The work of female artists has often been overlooked, undervalued or even misattributed. Art UK is working with collections to address this, and this celebration of art by women shows the diversity and beauty of their work.
Our selection of prints includes works by some of the earliest professional women artists, including Mary Beale, Artemisia Gentileschi and Angelica Kauffmann. Moving into the nineteenth century, some of the key figures include the inimitable animal painter Rosa Bonheur, the esoteric Beatrice Offor and Pre-Raphaelite Emma Sandys.
The twentieth century saw the powerful works of Dora Carrington, the quiet introspection of Gwen John and the documentary-like portraits of Laura Knight. The selection also features abstract works of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Mainie Jellett.
