The William Morris Society was founded in 1955 to celebrate and promote the life and work of renowned Victorian designer, artist, writer, and socialist William Morris and his associates. Based at Kelmscott House in Hammersmith, where Morris lived from 1879 until his death in 1896, the Society’s small museum has a comprehensive collection of Morris and Company wallpapers, watercolour designs, and a selection of textiles. Morris’ famous golden rule was ‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.’ The prints from the Society fall into the second category.
