Samuel Bough ‘Madame Sacchi’ mug

This elegant 250ml mug features the painting Self Portrait with His Dog, 'Madame Sacchi'  by Samuel Bough (1822–1878).

Bough is one of Carlisle's most important nineteenth-century artists. He painted very few portraits in his career and this painting is the only known self-portrait, painted in about 1866. It shows him with his favourite white bulldog, Madame Sacchi, named after a celebrated dancer. Bough was a great dog lover and they feature in many of his paintings.
