Maggi Hambling CBE Gainsborough's Gold limited edition print

A limited-edition giclee print by Sudbury born artist Maggi Hambling CBE, who has established a reputation as one of Britain's most significant and controversial painters and sculptors.

Inspired by an earlier oil on canvas painted with an intent to capture Gainsborough's fresh and fluid landscapes, Gainsborough's Gold evokes the golden light that Gainsborough created in his paintings. Originally part of a summer exhibition, Face to Face: Portraits from the Andrew Lambirth Collection (11 June – 16 October 2016) at Gainsborough's House, sales of this print support the development of the capital project at Gainsborough’s House.

Hambling is a long-standing supporter of the Gainsborough's House. She remembers the inspiration she found visiting the museum as a child: ‘…the experience of seeing great painting for the first time remains with me to this day. I couldn’t believe that cows or clouds, woods or dogs, trees and land could be made so real with paint…this childhood encounter was exciting and mysterious’.
