In 1954 Richard and Sheila Attenborough paid their first visit to the Madoura pottery in Vallauris, where Picasso had been working for several years with Georges and Suzanne Ramie. This was the beginning of a collection that eventually numbered some 140 pieces, which has been entrusted to Leicester Museum and Art Gallery.

The publication catalogues and illustrates each of the works on the collection with technical data and details of their acquisition with an introductory essay. This is the first full study of an important group of works that Picasso always intended should be within the reach of the broadest public.
