This catalogue includes over 3,100 oil paintings held in public ownership throughout Merseyside, excluding the collections of National Museums Liverpool, to which a separate catalogue will be devoted. Drawn together from a variety of institutions and organisations, including hospitals, universities and local councils, the works in this catalogue collectively demonstrate the broad wealth of publicly-owned art in the county. From works by local artists, kept for their social and historical value, to fine aesthetic examples by nationally and internationally recognised artists, this volume reveals the outstanding art treasures to be found in this corner of the North West.
