The British painter, writer and photographer Paul Nash played a key role in the development of English modernism and is known for both his surrealist works and as a war artist.
Finding inspiration in landscapes, his works include Wood on the Downs (Aberdeen Art Gallery), Cotswold Hills (The Box, Plymouth) and The Rye Marshes, East Sussex (Ferens Art Gallery).
His paintings produced during the First World War are iconic representations of the conflict and include Wounded, Passenchendaele (Manchester Art Gallery).
