Joan Eardley (1921–1963) was born in West Sussex, England, but is often considered Scottish due to her connection to Scotland, following her move there in 1940. After studying at Glasgow School of Art, Eardley split her time between Glasgow and the fishing village of Catterline until her death at the age of 42. Eardley is renowned for her emotive portraits of Glasgow’s working class children, her stormy coastal scenes and the wild landscapes of Catterline.
Some of her works are now available to purchase as art prints, allowing you to bring a piece of this powerful art into your home.
