Ceri Giraldus Richards (1903–1971)

Ceri Richards is regarded as one of the most celebrated British artists of the twentieth century. Born in Dunvant, Swansea, Richards studied at Swansea School of Art before earning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in London.

Richards was greatly influenced by poetry, particularly that of fellow Welshman Dylan Thomas, and went on to make paintings and prints inspired by his poems over the years. His love for nature also shaped his work which is evident in paintings including The Force that through the Green Fuse: The Source and Cycle of Nature. Richards was also a talented musician and he often combined his passion for music with his art, as seen in pieces such as Homage to Beethoven and Arrangement for Piano.
